A interesting night...

Last night I was awoken by a light cramping pain in my lower abdomen... I thought... hummm... that's new. And tried to go back to sleep. Then about 15 min later... it happened again. This time I put my hands to my belly and felt a firmness all over. I layed there a while thinking... wow, could this be contractions? It happened off and on for a couple of hours. I woke Brandyn up, told him I wasn't feeling good... and that I thought I should call labor and delivery (as they tell you to do).

This week marks 36 weeks in the pregnancy for me... so I had a small panic attack about it all being too early... and thought for sure that the hospital would call me in to give me drugs to make the contractions stop.

The labor & delivery nurse was super great. Asked all about my symptoms... had my water broken (no)... what was my pain level on a scale of 1-10 (2) etc., etc. And then she explained to me that sometimes contractions/cramps like this can happen for weeks before the baby is born. But other times it is a sign that labor is beginning... and since I'm 36 weeks... that's totally OK and they would allow that to happen.

WHAT!?! How did I get close enough for the baby to be born at any minute!?! I'm/we're not ready for that!

So... I took it easy today... worked from home... waited for the cramping/contractions to subside (they did)... and... started working on PACKING my hospital bag and getting other things ready.

Time to install the car seat Brandyn!!

How scary! I'm glad they went away. A similar thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago, and I was told the same thing...they wouldn't stop labor if that's what was happening. Definitely a wake up call!

Alison?! How did you get to be 36 weeks already? Craziness. How exciting, though! Get ready... :o)

Wow! I didn't realize you were that close. Time sure flies. Try not to panic too much. I had Braxton Hicks contractions with Carri. It was a little weird to feel my belly tighten. Sometimes just massaging it helped the muscles relax. Having Baby C at 36 weeks is no problem, in fact when they do C sections they like to schedule those between 37 1/2 and 38 weeks so there isn't a chance of needing an emergency C-sect.

Yeesh! That puts me at half way!

Wow, how did you get to be 36 weeks? Your pregnancy has flown by (for me, lol).

Get that car seat installed, STAT!

Oh BTW depending on the hospital you may not want to install the seat. Ours wanted to actually see the seat and helped us install it in the car.

Check what your hospital's policy will be.

OMG...so exciting for you!! It's so close now!

Good for you for recognizing what those pains actually were. I had no idea until I was at the Drs and they occurred. Dr had to inform me that they were contractions! (Duh!)

Sounds like good ol' Braxton-Hicks contractions! How fun!

I had an ultrasound with Alex at 36 weeks and my doc said, well, I can see the lungs functioning, so he'd be fine coming out anytime. And she was willing to go as early as 37 weeks with my c-section if I wanted to. So you are definitely right there!

Do you have the seat that comes with the base that stays in the car? If so, tell Brandyn to get that base in! You never know...
